Visual Basic Runtime Error when closing Microsoft Word

Visual Basic Runtime Error when closing Microsoft Word

Problem:

After dictating into Microsoft Word with ViaVoice, a Visual Basic Runtime Error displays when closing Microsoft Word.

Cause:

ViaVoice installs multiple templates and add-ins into Microsoft Word, which may cause conflicts with the template “PDFMaker.dot”.

ViaVoice installs the following templates into Microsoft Word: (Some editions install different combinations these macros.)

    Dictation.dot
    NavNC.dot
    Navmswordnlu.dot
    NavVD.dot
    Voicedoc.dot

Solution:

We recommend the following:

Option 1:

  1. Uninstall the Adobe and ViaVoice Software through Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Follow the steps in Technote 4547 to run the Viaclean uninstall utility to ensure that ViaVoice was completely removed.
  3. Launch Windows Explorer and browse to the following location and make sure that all of the ViaVoice and Adobe templates are removed (.dot)

    Microsoft Office 97 and 2000
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\startup

    Microsoft Office XP
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\startup

  4. Install ViaVoice and enable Microsoft Word Support.
  5. Create a new user in ViaVoice.
  6. Launch Microsoft Word and dictate with ViaVoice.
  7. Close Microsoft Word and the error should not occur.

Note: If the problem still occurs, search for the 'normal.dot' file, rename it to .old and restart Microsoft Word.

Option 2:

  1. Launch Windows Explorer and browse to the Office/Startup location to rename the PDFMaker.dot to PDFMaker.old.
  2. Launch Microsoft Word and dictate with ViaVoice.
  3. Close Microsoft Word and the error should not occur.

Note: If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend following the steps in Option 1 to remove the Adobe software.
