"User files you have selected cannot be accessed" error when attempting to open a user profile
"User files you have selected cannot be accessed" error when attempting to open a user profile
Problem:
When opening a user profile from Dragon NaturallySpeaking, the following error message may appear:
User profile can't be accessed because you don't have the sufficient privileges or it is being use by another program
Cause:
This error may occur if the user profile folder is open in Windows Explorer while Dragon NaturallySpeaking is attempting to load the user profile, or if changes were made to specific folder permissions.
Solution:
We recommend first closing Windows Explorer if it is open and then attempting to open the user profile.
If the error still appears when opening the user profile, please follow these steps:
- Close Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
- Open Windows Explorer.
- Navigate to the folder where the Dragon user profiles are stored.
- For example, the default locations for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 are:
- In Windows 2000/XP (Version 12 and earlier only): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking12\
- In Windows Vista/7/8/10: C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeakingXX\
- Right-click on the "Users" folder and choose “Properties”.
- Select the “Security” tab.
- Note: In Windows Vista/7, click the “Edit” button.
- Highlight “Users” from the “Group or user names:” box.
- Ensure “Read & Execute”, “List folder contents”, and “Read” are checked.
