"Error 1722: There is a problem with this Windows installer package's"

Problem:

When installing Systran Translator, the following error occurs: "Error 1722: There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".

Solution:

To resolve this issue, delete all Systran related MSI files in the directory C:\Windows\Installer. This is a system directory not displayed by default for security reasons. Follow the steps below to correct this issue:

Note: This solution is only to be used on Windows 2000/XP.

  1. Right-click on the "Start" button and click on "Explore".
  2. Click the "View" tab, go to "Advanced Settings" and look for "Files and Folders".
  3. Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types".
  4. Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
  5. Under "Hidden files" check "Show hidden files and folder".
  6. Click "Apply to all folders".
  7. Click "OK"
  8. In Windows Explorer, go to the directory C:\Windows\Installer.
  9. Right-click each filename in that folder that has an .MSI extension.
  10. Click "Properties" and then select the "Summary" tab.
  11. If the word "Systran" appears in the Subject or Author field, click "OK" and then delete that file.
  12. Reinstall the Systran product.

Follow the steps below if deleting the .MSI files failed to correct this issue:

Note: This solution is only to be used on Windows XP only.

  1. Click "Start".
  2. Click "Run".
  3. In the box labeled "Open", type "Regsvr32 wintrust.dll" and click "OK".
  4. A message that says the .DLL has been registered will appear, click "OK".
  5. Reinstall the Systran product.
